This extended weekend is huge for our club.

First, the U12 team heads into Gaelic Park this Saturday in search of another title.  Our team has matured this season from a rag tag group of misfits into a cohesive, motivated unit.  In the finals they go up against the perennial favorite Rockland club, who demonstrated their dominance over our team earlier in the season…but that was then.  On Saturday at 1 PM in Gaelic Park we we will come ready, motivated and ready to drink the sweet nectar of victory from the cup once again!  Parents, please let the coaches know if your team member will be available to play.

Then…

St. Joes Annual Golf Outing!

We are having our annual golf outing on Monday June 13th at Rockleigh golf course (click here for directions).  For those of you who have attended before you know how much fun we have playing golf and also afterwards at the Tenafly Elks Lodge for Chef Peter Quinn’s famous dinner, live music and the awards and raffles.  If you have not attended before please make a point of being there to support our club.  This is our major fund raiser for the year, so we do need your help!

Here is what is included: The golf, with breakfast and lunch.  Dinner at the Elks in Tenafly, with a 3 hour open bar and live music by Danny Quinn.  All of this for $130.  Unbelievable value indeed!

If you are not golfing you are welcome to join us for the dinner at the Elks and socialize off the football field with club members.  Please RSVP if you are going to the dinner only, the cost will be $40  The fun starts at 5pm!

Don’t forget that we need everyone to get involved with the hole sponsorships.  Please work hard to bring in as many as possible – family, friends and businesses.  The golf hole sponsor is the same cost as last year – $50 for a family and $100 for business and corporate sponsors.  Please fill them out and send to Pete Jones or Mike O’reilly.  See you this weekend!

We have a combined panel of 18 players for U8 and U10.  We have just been given late notice that the playoffs start this Saturday in Rockland.  The U10 are playing Rockland in Rockland at 3pm, followed by the U12 game where St. Joe’s are playing against Long Island in Rockland.  Sorry for the short notice but we need all hands on deck this Saturday.  Please make an effect to come to practice tomorrow at 6pm in Fairlawn.  We will ask you to please be available for this game on Saturday.   Thanks again for all of your cooperation this year. 

(To avoid any confusion there is no U8 game but we need all the U8 to play the U10 game)

Directions to playing field in Rockland:

Take Palisades Pkwy to Exit 6W – Orangeburg Rd west.  Continue west on
Orangeburg Rd to the 2nd traffic light and make a right turn.  Continue to stop sign
and make a left, then an immediate right into the field.  Park on the right side as you
go in.  If this is full, continue past the field and make a left after the building on the
left side.  There is parking behind the building.   Do not park in the lot adjacent to
the field – this is for Psych Center staff only.

The directions to Hofstra University are: Hofstra USA and Intramural Fields, North Campus; From northwestern New Jersey, northern Pennsylvania, and the Middle States: Take either Interstate 78, Interstate 80, US Route 22, New Jersey Route 4, or New Jersey Route 17 to the George Washington Bridge … Proceed over the bridge to the Cross Bronx Expressway onto the Throgs Neck Bridge … Take Cross Island Parkway (first exit over the bridge on right) to the Grand Central Parkway East (Exit 29, exit forks – stay left) … Grand Central Parkway will become the Northern State Parkway East, follow to Exit 31A (Meadowbrook Parkway South) … Take the Meadowbrook Parkway to Exit M4 (sign reads “Hempstead” and “Coliseum”) … From Exit M4 of the Meadowbrook Parkway you will be on Route 24 West (Hempstead Turnpike) … Stay on 24W for about one mile … Pass Nassau Coliseum … Hofstra University is on both sides of Hempstead Turnpike … You will see three overhead walkways … For the North Campus Main Entrance, make the first right after the first overhead walkway. follow signs for the North Campus.

St. Joseph’s Gaelic Football Club will be marching as a group in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Bergenfield on March 13, 2010. We will be gathering at Beechwood Street and Englewood Avenue on the East Side of Washington Avenue at 1:30 p.m. It would be very nice to have a big turnout for our club. We will provide t-shirts for the kids to wear. So, everyone come out and show your St. Joe’s pride.

Following the parade there will be a party at the Tenafly Elk’s on Franklin Street in Tenafly. Billy Keenan will supply the music and the incomparable Pete Quinn will supply the food. The cost will be $25 for adults and kids are free. This always a great evening, so be sure to come. Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.
